Meet the Eagle EJP-12X: Tronair’s Next-Gen Electric Towbarless Tug

The Eagle Tug EJP-12X electric towbarless tug moving a regional jet.

Swanton, Ohio – October 12, 2026 – Tronair, a leading provider of ground support equipment and aviation maintenance solutions, today introduced the Eagle EJP-12X electric towbarless tug. Building on the proven Eagle EJP-12 platform, the new model delivers greater capability in a more compact package, with improved maneuverability, reliability, serviceability, safety and ease of use.

The EJP-12X handles pushback and repositioning of business jets and regional aircraft with a maximum takeoff weight (MTOW) of up to 125,000 pounds in all-weather conditions. A refined body and zero-degree turning help operators work confidently in tight spaces, while state-of-the-art permanent magnet AC (PMAC) drive motors and flexible battery options, including lead-acid, lithium and extended-range lithium, deliver smooth, efficient performance shift after shift.

“When developing the EJP-12X, we focused on what operators tell us is non-negotiable in their operations: extreme reliability, all-weather performance, low maintenance and ease of repair,” said Nate Bender, Product Manager at Tronair. “By pairing those foundational principles with performance features like best-in-class maneuverability, higher traveling speeds and excellent visibility, we’ve delivered a tug that makes aircraft movement safer and more efficient than ever.”

Building on the EJP-12, the EJP-12X introduces several new features:
•    A smaller footprint that frees up more usable hangar space
•    PMAC drive motors for efficient, high-power performance
•    Lithium battery technology that extends run time and eliminates routine battery maintenance
•    An optional onboard SAE J1772 charger for convenient charging
•    Improved access to service points, making routine maintenance quicker and easier

The EJP-12X also retains the features Eagle Tug operators value most:
•    A simple, intuitive user interface that minimizes training time
•    An industry-leading three-year warranty
•    Zero-degree turning that can provide up to four additional feet of usable stacking space in the hangar compared with many competitive solutions
•    Safety features including oversteer protection and creep mode
•    The capability to handle regional aircraft and heavy business jets with confidence
